Patio Perspectives # 2: Pick One Thing
Why your midlife transformation probably starts with something boring.
This morning’s Patio Perspective comes courtesy of coffee, my patio, and Alfie staring me down waiting for to throw the ball.😂
Patio time is always reflection time for me, and it got me thinking…
Women are really good at doing more.
More responsibility. More research. More goals. More pushing. More figuring-it-out-on-our-own.
So when midlife starts throwing us curveballs, our energy changes, sleep gets weird, recovery takes longer, our body stops responding the way it always has, our instinct is often the same.
DO MORE.
Find the perfect workout.
Research another supplement.
Try a new nutrition plan.
Listen to another podcast.
Google another symptom.
Overhaul the entire routine starting Monday.
The answer isn't doing more.
It's getting better at paying attention to what YOU actually need! I know, I've been there.
That's something I’ve learned through my own experience with perimenopause and now through coaching other women navigating it.
Your body is constantly giving you information.
Your sleep is data. Your energy is data. Your recovery is data. Your stress is data. Your symptoms are data.
When we start paying attention, we can start seeing patterns.
And when we see patterns, we can make better decisions.
DATA DRIVES DECISIONS.
But then comes the part we sometimes skip. Taking action. And that action doesn't have to be revolutionary.
More protein.
A 20-minute walk.
An earlier bedtime.
More water.
10 minutes outside.
Strength training.
Or maybe today, you need a freaking break (we all need them and don't prioritize them).
It’s rarely fancy.
There’s no magic pill.
It’s the boring stuff that builds the foundation. It takes us getting in the "ick" of it to realize this...boring = results.
So here’s your Rebrand Era challenge.
Ask yourself: What does my body need from me today?
Then pick ONE thing.
Not six.
Not an entirely new routine.
Not the perfect plan you’ll start Monday.
ONE.
Then do it.
Because small actions repeated consistently beat the perfect plan you never start. Remind yourself this DAILY!
The goal isn't to do all the things.
The goal is to get better at paying attention to what YOU need, and then actually doing something about it.
That’s one of the opportunities midlife gives us. We spend decades getting really good at doing more.
Midlife may be the season that teaches us to do what matters.
Mine today? Coffee + patio time.
Alfie’s one thing? THROW. THE. BALL.😂
At least one of us has mastered the art of knowing exactly what he needs.
What’s your ONE thing today?
Until next time, remember: your attitude determines your latitude.
Choose it. Own it. Live it.
